Bringing about 700 election cameras into one system

How the General Election Commission's polling-committee cameras were unified on Nx Witness, with role-based access and automatic failover.

For the 2024 parliamentary election, the General Election Commission needed to watch polling committees as one. The goal was to let the responsible bodies confirm the process ran fairly and accurately, and respond quickly when action was needed.

The solution

We brought about 700 cameras from polling committees in the capital and the provinces into one Nx Witness system, streamed live to central monitoring screens.

How it works

  • Showreel: 20 live cameras per screen, switching to the next group every 30 seconds. 23 groups in total.
  • Role-based access: the capital, the commission, political parties, and each province or constituency see only their own cameras.
  • Failover: if a server fails, its cameras move to a standby server and clients reconnect on their own. After a network or power failure this takes about 1 minute.
  • Server load: operators watch the load on each server live, while the system runs.

When you bring cameras from many sites into one system, the most important step is deciding early who may see what.
